Indigo Salt

About Indigo Salt

A dazzling gift of nature for healthy living.

Who We Are

Indigo Salt is a food and design brand built around carefully selected natural mineral salt from around the world. Our research and product development began in Sweden in 2022. Today, the company is registered in Sweden and headquartered in Dubai, which serves as our base for packaging and international market development.

Formed more than 100 million years ago, Indigo Salt is naturally rich in minerals, particularly potassium. It tastes just like regular salt and offers the same everyday versatility, while adding a remarkable mineral character and a dazzling natural appearance that immediately captures the eye.

Whether you prefer to scrape the mineral crystal directly over your food, use it in a grinder, or enjoy it as a pinch salt, we have developed a range of formats designed to make Indigo Salt easy to use in everyday kitchens, restaurants, gifting, and hospitality.

Our Story

Ancient blue salt rock formations in a desert landscape

Indigo Salt began with a question about what makes one natural edible salt different from another: purity, mineral composition, texture and flavour. During that search, we encountered rare indigo crystals that appear only in small traces within certain salt deposits. Their colour, clarity and scarcity changed the direction of the project.

Over the following years, we gathered and compared samples, studied deposits and developed a method for selecting and combining the material, with academic and specialist collaboration in Sweden. From that work came a way to preserve natural flavour, visual character and a defined mineral profile across a consistent range.

Today the collection brings that work beyond specialist circles and into everyday use, with coarse and fine salt, whole crystals and refillable objects designed to make a rare natural material easy to enjoy.

Q&A

Indigo Salt is a carefully selected natural mineral rock salt with a naturally occurring indigo colour. It is sold as food, in coarse, fine and pinch formats, alongside whole crystals and refillable table objects.

In rare cases, microscopic changes develop within a salt crystal's structure over geological time. These structural variations change how the crystal interacts with light, creating shades that range from pale blue to violet and deep indigo.

Yes. The colour is natural. It is not a dye or a surface treatment.

No. Indigo Salt is not dyed, coloured or chemically treated. The appearance comes from the natural material itself.

Because the colour forms naturally, every piece can look different. Some crystals are nearly clear with a blue centre; others carry deeper indigo zones, cloudy edges or natural fractures. That variation is part of the material.

Indigo Salt is selected from natural salt deposits around the world that formed more than 100 million years ago. Research and product development began in Sweden, and the salt is packaged in the UAE for regional and international distribution.

Careful selection lets us manage consistency in flavour, colour, grain behaviour and mineral profile, while preserving the natural variation that makes the material remarkable.

The material is chosen through a selection method developed during our research in Sweden, focused on purity, mineral character, texture and appearance. The detailed selection know-how is proprietary.

Indigo Salt refers to the culinary formats: coarse, fine and pinch salt for cooking and finishing. Indigo Crystals are whole, hand-selected crystals to grate at the table, keep in a jar or give as a gift.

Heart of Salt is a clean white natural rock salt with a restrained touch of indigo, offered as a refillable grinder and refills. It is the everyday essential.

Grate or scrape a crystal over finished dishes at the table, keep it on display in a jar, or present it as a gift.

Yes. The coarse and fine formats are made for daily cooking and finishing, like any quality natural salt.

No. Indigo Salt tastes just like regular salt, so you can use it exactly as you would ordinary salt, in cooking and at the table.

Indigo Salt was developed through research in Sweden and is packaged in the UAE for regional and international distribution.

Indigo Salt is naturally richer in potassium than most common table salts, because the rock salt contains potassium chloride, the mineral sylvite, alongside ordinary sodium chloride. Potassium is an essential mineral and many modern diets are low in it. Exact amounts vary between batches and are confirmed by laboratory testing.

Choosing a salt that contains potassium chloride in place of some sodium chloride is one way people keep a salty flavour while lowering the sodium in their diet. Indigo Salt is a food rather than a medicine, and works best used thoughtfully as part of a balanced diet.

For most people it can be used like any quality culinary salt, in moderation. Because it contains potassium, anyone with kidney problems or diabetes, or taking medicines that affect potassium, should check with a doctor before using a potassium-rich salt.

Indigo Salt is a rock salt drawn from ancient underground deposits rather than evaporated seawater, so it is not exposed to modern ocean pollution in the way sea salt can be. Rather than making blanket claims, we rely on testing and traceability.

It is an ordinary food salt and can be used in family cooking in moderation, like any salt. What matters most is the overall amount of salt in the diet. Families with specific health conditions should follow their clinician's advice.

Keep it dry and away from direct light, like any natural salt. Its low residual moisture makes it well suited to salt mills.
